Karl gave a guest lecture to The University of Toronto School of Finnish Studies on Finland's wars (The Winter, Continuation and Lapland Wars) with Russia during WW II. He shared the stories of his families' loss of their Karjala homes, the flight of the womenfolk to Central Finland, and the men's experiences fighting on the front lines.
Ukraine today is living a very similar experience with Russia - history is repeating itself.
